2017 marks the 4th Annual Silver Comet Trail Bike Ride.  This year, The Dave Krache Foundation and Cycology Bike Shop have nearly 50 riders across 3 different speed groups participate in this weekend-long event.  Some riders cycle from Hiram, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama.  Most will ride from Rockmart, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama.  Cyclists can ride anywhere from 65 to 90 miles in a single day – and up to 180 miles that weekend!  That’s a LOT of mileage!

As part of their registration fee, riders get a fun swag bag, t-shirt, cycling jersey, hotel stay, lunch Sunday, dinner Sunday, and breakfast Monday.  They also get support along the way.

Along the 90 miles of the Silver Comet Trail Bike Ride, volunteers staff what’s known as “SAG Stops” to make sure that the cyclists get food, hydration, moral support, and if necessary, minor first aid and bike repair assistance.  Trailhead stops have been selected based on good stopping points for the cyclists.  These Trailheads are ‘tried and true’ and are perfect for our groups to stop and take a breather.

You don’t need experience in anything related to cycling in order to help!  You’re always put with a group of at least 2 other people, so there are no fewer than 3 people at a SAG Stop.  Each SAG Stop comes with a leader of the group to help with specifics, and is “open” for about 3 hours.  Exact time will be communicated to the group when the final details of the ride are set.

There are three stops along the way on Sunday, May 28, 2017 –

Rockmart, GA

Here, we check cyclists in who are starting from this trailhead.

Some cyclists have already started their morning in Hiram, so this stop also serves as a food/hydration/pit stop for that group.

These volunteers will have fruit, sandwiches, Band-aids, bike tubes – the works!  All supplies are provided.  We just need you to help make sure the cyclists see a friendly face along the way!

Germania/Jacksonville State Park in Alabama

This may seem like a long ways away – but it’s not!  It’s less than 90 minutes from Marietta, Georgia, and is a beautiful State Park where the riders will stop just before making it to the finish line this day.

We also have a final stop on Sunday – Hampton Inn in Jacksonville, Alabama.  If you are interested in sticking around to help with a late lunch set-up or dinner coordination, there are volunteers slots available.

This is the finish line for most riders!  They may want a snack or something to drink – volunteers help with this.  Volunteers also help the riders match up their overnight bag from the car that drove the luggage from the airport.

We will also need 2-3 volunteers to help the entire weekend: From start to finish and everything in between.
